St Mary's Church dates back to around the year 1200, but little is left from this period
apart from the 3 East piers between the nave and the South aisle. The nave was doubled in
length when the church was enlarged in 1909-10 by P. H.
Currey, and the tower was rebuilt in a new position. It contains a rare and remarkable early 14th
century stone screen.
There is a well preserved effigy of a cross-legged knight, presumed to be that of Nicholas de
Cantelupe, who died in 1272. The Cantelupes were lords of the manor in the 13th century.

We are a lively fun-filled church that is passionate about Jesus and the lost. Our building
serves not only a Sunday service and Junior Church, but also mid-week activities including a
thriving Parent and Toddler group, weekly Senior Citizen lunches, many exciting youth activities
and more! Our church is made up of many people from differing ages and backgrounds.
We believe in releasing people to fulfil their God-given potential. We run Equipping Nights to help
people realise their giftings and use them within the life of the church. House groups offer the
opportunity to grow in God and in relationship with each other. We work with other churches in the
town on community projects, outreach events and quarterly celebrations.
1 Rutland Street, Ilkeston, Derbyshire, DE7 8DG -- 0115 930 7097

Nottingham Road Methodist - junction of Nottingham Road and Little Hallam Lane.
Stemming from the need for a place of worship for migrant families
from Staffordshire,
whose men folk worked at Trowell Forge, the church began in 1875 with the purchase of four cottages on the
site of the present church, one of which was used for public worship.
In 1884 the first purpose built church was opened, built in the gardens of the four cottages. In 1897 work
began to increase the capacity of the church. This extension work necessitated the demolition of the two
cottages which fronted onto Nottingham Road. In 1959 a new church was added to the old school rooms.

The church is notible with its large green spire, is situated behind the Co op just off Wharncliffe road
