Erewash Museum has launched a thought-provoking contemporary
art exhibition with a difference - a unique display of work all
inspired by the Museum and the Erewash borough.
Seven emerging artists were commissioned to produce the work,
which has been placed throughout the museum’s rooms and among
the permanent exhibits.
Called Future/Past, the display will run until 31st July and
includes an interactive sand sculpture and kinetic work using the
movement of old record players.
The seven artists featured are Charlotte Pratley, Hugh Dichmont,
Chie Hosaka, Rachel Eite, Samuel Mercer, Peter Norman and Frillip
Moolog.
Among the work is ‘Madeleine’, a 21st Century sculpture
created by Frillip Moolog and inspired by features in the historic
museum building and linked to the D H Lawrence era – while her
outfit also incorporates a modern fabric to salute Ilkeston
textile manufacturer Baltex.
Councillor Mike Wallis, Erewash Borough Council’s Lead Member
for Culture and Leisure, said: “This exhibition is both
fascinating and unusual – definitely one not to be missed. I
would urge everyone to go along and enjoy walking through the
museum, a beautiful building, set in delightful grounds.”
